"It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."

Bakunin was born in 1814 and died in 1876. He was a Russian conspirator, Anarchist, Marx's nemesis and assassin of God. Bakunin studied philosophy and when in schusselburg prison in 1854, his teeth fell out due to scurvy...nice!

Bakunin left Russia in 1842 and met Karl Marx in Paris. He took part in the 1848 French Revolution then moved to Germany and called for the overthrow of the Hapsburg empire.

He was sentenced to death in 1849, then again in Austria for his involvements in the revolutions. He was given over to the Russian government in 1851 and put into prison. He was transffered to schlisselburg fortress until 1857 and then exiled to Siberia.

Bakunin escaped from Siberia and travelled to America, London, Sweden, Italy and finally settled in Geneva for a time in 1868. In 1873 he published his work, " Statism and Anarchy," in which he advocated the abolistion of hereditary property, equality for women and free education for children.

Bakunin disagreed with Marx's ideas on state socialism, saying that it would replace one oppressive government with another.
